Dynamic learning environment

We keep our training courses small (groups of 8-10 people) and provide an in-person experience. This provides a dynamic learning environment, allowing for group discussions and case conceptualisations – exploring and expanding on attendees’ own clinical experiences.

Further information

There are two levels of specialist, accredited training courses for practising EMDR with children and adolescents. You need to complete both levels before you can become an Accredited EMDR Child & Adolescent Practitioner or Consultant.

Level 1

To enrol on the Level 1 Child & Adolescent EMDR Training course (accredited by EMDR Europe), you must have completed the accredited standard EMDR training (Part 1). Ideally, you will also have attended Part 2 of the standard EMDR training, whereby you’ve had the opportunity to have discussed some of your cases, and started to utilise the standard protocol.

This course lasts two days, and the focus is on clinical skills training, particularly the basic adaptations needed to the EMDR protocol for working with children of different ages (2-18), and a neuro-biological understanding of trauma in children and adolescence.

The course also covers ‘stretching the window of tolerance’ for vulnerable children, and working with children in a group setting.  It also considers the importance of working with family systems to understand the trauma narratives of the child and family – and the importance of this through the History/Preparation stages.

Level 2

Level 2 Child & Adolescent EMDR Training (accredited by EMDR Europe) is open to therapists who have completed Level 1 Child & Adolescent EMDR Training, finished all parts of the standard EMDR training, and had some clinical experience using EMDR with children or adolescents.

It is a two day course addressing the use of EMDR with more complex issues in young people, such as dissociative disorders, complicated grief, complex PTSD, etc.

The Level 2 course will also cover working with children with learning difficulties, looked-after children (those in the care system), Adopted Children and more specialist work such as working with children/young people at risk of offending.
