Expertise and Experience
Dr Wilson is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and a Chartered Psychologist. Dr Wilson is experienced in working with clients across all age ranges including adults, children and adolescents. She is able to provide assessment and therapeutic intervention for a range of common psychological issues including anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, occupational and workplace issues, depression, anxiety, and child behavioural problems. She specialises in both Adult and Child Psychology with a particular interest in Attachment and Trauma / PTSD across the age ranges. She has experience of working with complex presentations with both adults and children over the years – with extensive experience in working with individuals who have sustained multiple or sustained traumas or neglect/abuse. Dr Wilson provides therapy using a range of models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She is currently working towards accreditation in CAT and EMDR and has used EMDR for several years with complex presentations including asylum seekers and refugees, ex-military personnel, and dissociative presentations. She is skilled in the application of these therapy skills to more complex presentations. Dr Wilson has undertaken further training in EMDR for children and has worked with children, both individually and with their families. She is able to provide therapy through interpreters where required. Dr Wilson has an active research role providing field supervision for trainee research on the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology course in Hull and sits on the Local Research and Ethics Committee panel within the Faculty of Health and Social Care. She provides training, supervision and consultation on a range of issues, specialising in the field of complex trauma, attachment and personality development.
Since 2009, Dr Wilson has worked in a specialist psychological trauma service the NHS, currently holding the post of Principal Clinical Psychologist. Since 2012, she has also worked part-time in private practice and has developed a wide range of expertise in this area, including: child therapy work and assessment, assessment of parenting, criminal injuries/medico legal assessment, occupational and employment support and self- referrals for therapy.
