Expertise and Experience

Avivit Dekel is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and a chartered Clinical Psychologist who has been working with children, adolescents and families for the past 20 years. She is qualified to assess and treat a wide range of social, behavioural, emotional and psychological issues. She has substantial experience of carrying out cognitive assessments, working systemically with young people with moderate to severe level of mental health and neurodevelopmental issues. She also has experience working with adults with severe learning disabilities.

Avivit specialises in working with presentations associated with Looked After and Adopted Children, including early developmental trauma, PTSD, and attachment difficulties. Avivit has gained extensive experience with this client group, using a wide range of psychotherapies such as DDP, Theraplay, EMDR and other approaches as required. Another area of specialism is conducting Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments, and supporting families who have children with ASD (Avivit is trained in ADOS-2 and ADI-R assessment).

Currently, Avivit works part-time in the NHS in a Children and Adolescent Mental Health team (CAMHS) and in the CAMHS Children Looked After team. Here, as well as providing direct therapeutic work, an important aspect of Avivit’s role has been to provide consultations to the multidisciplinary team. Avivit offers a wide range of services in private practice, including assessment, therapy, consultancy and clinical supervision.
